As we all know, Armenia is very small but one of the most comfortable countries for me. I really love this country and before starting travelling I was thinking about going to live in another country when I’m older. Because there could be more opportunities to grow in career. But recently I’ve been in another countries and almost the whole time I was feeling the urge to come home. Just because here is my family, my friends, my whole life, here is where I really feel like I’m at home.
Now, let’s talk about advantages and disadvantages of living in Armenia.
So about advantages
- Armenia isn’t one of the most developed countries in the world of course. But we try to develop and there is a progress. You can choose any profession and still can reach something in that. For example American University of Armenia gives a certificate which equals a certificate given by a American university abroad.
- Like other countries, Armenia also has so many beautiful places in a capital city and not only which you can explore. Attractive nature, delicious cuisine, kind- hearted people.
- Armenia is one of the safest countries in a whole world. It ranks sixth among the safest countries in the world.
- Armenia is not only safe, but affordable. You can live comfortably for $1,000/month, including rent. For example, a small apartment in a nice part of Yerevan can be found for as little as $300/month and food expenses rarely top that. Of course, actual expenses vary by person, but suffice to say there are few countries in the world that can be compared to Armenia when it comes to affordability and safety.
I brought only 4 instances, bur of course there are more than 4.
Now disadvantages
- Wars. The most painful topic for all armenians. For decades armenians had to fight to survive and unfortunately, we still have to. Our neighbor countries attack us and we have no choice but to fight.
- Language. Armenian language is unique in her own way but it’s very hard for foreigners to communicate with locals. Whenever locals see that you don’t speak armenian they start speaking russian just because Armenia was in Soviet Union for more than 70 years. English isn’t that developed in Armenia.
- Some armenian families are very traditional. They wouldn’t let their daughter or son to marry to a foreigner. But it’s very different in armenian families.
- Most of armenian people are homophobic. They do not support a relationship between people of the same gender. But right now the new generation tries to make some changes connected to it.
Every country without exception has its own advantages and disadvantages. Do not try to romanticize a life in one country, blindly believing that it’s perfect country.
Armenia is my home. Place where I feel the most comfortable and happy. I don’t know if it’s because I grew up here or just because I’m connected somehow to this place.
I want to travel all over the world but in the end I’ll always come back home.
